2- Author's Purpose

How do you as a reader identify an author's purpose in writing?

  1. When I read, I notice things in the story that are similar to things going on in real life at around the same time. If something is similar, the author is probably trying to make fun of or bring attention to that subject.

  4. Personally, when I am finding the authors purpose, I look for emotions towards certain things, and things that the author mentions frequently.

  7. I as a reader can identify an author's purpose by looking at the writing style and the way that they say things. For example, if an author doesn't use "I" and they are talking about facts, then it is most likely to inform. If an author uses the word "I" then they are putting themselves in the work. If they are talking about funny things, or personal things, than the purpose is most likely to entertain.

  8. When identifying the author's purpose you get a real sense of where the author is coming from and what they are trying to get at, you have to actually realize what the author is actually putting out, trying to comprehend what the author is truly trying to say.

  10. The reader identifies an author's purpose for writing by taking inferences about the book like is it fiction or nonfiction. Other examples included is it giving the reader information about a topic or entertainment for the reader. The reader must take the content of the book and decided what the author's purpose was

  11. As a reader, my way of identifying the author's purpose in writing is what kind of story they have put out. If its an informative story or if it is a fiction story. This can tell the purpose of the author and what they are trying to teach you.

  12. To figure out what the author's purpose is alot easier than you would think just look for connections in the words, for instance if the passage uses stats the purpose is probaly to inform you.

If the author has a negative opinion about the topic, then their purpose might be to get people to boycott/not support something. If they have a positive opinion, then they might be trying to persuade you to like something.

  23. When reading you can tell the author's purpose by the tone the author gives off. You can also tell the author's purpose by the direct words they use in certain situations. For instance if they are trying to tell a story or are telling you to do something.

  24. I Identify the purpose by trying to see what the author is really saying, rather than what is on the paper. The author could say one thing but be referencing something much more than what he wrote. You have to read more than just the paper to see what the authors purpose is.

  25. While reading, I can identify the author's purpose of the writing by specific words or statements. But most of the time their opinion. If the purpose of the story is to persuade, there is a good chance that the author will write his opinion.There will always be "sides" or "options" to chose and that can be identified through, almost, the attitude of the author.

  26. As a reader, we can identify the authors purpose by reading between the lines and looking for subtle hints such as the setting, the role the characters play, and how the characters interact which may tell us what the author is trying to get us take from the reading and the purpose.

  27. To identify and authors purpose you need to read over all the text carefully and thoughtfully. After finishing the book you need to come to the conclusion about what was the main topic of the book and what were the authors main points. Once found you can identify the main purpose for the book, and through the authors emotions and writing style you can decipher his purpose for writing the book.

  29. The type of book, like fiction or non-fiction is a way to tell the authors purpose. Non-fiction is usually to inform the reader and fiction is usually to entertain. Plus the way the author writes indicates their purpose, if they are cracking jokes and making it humorous, then they are trying to make you laugh.

  30. When I am reading I look for the authors opinions. If the author is biased towards a particular topic most times a reader can identify that. The author could be positively biased or negatively biased or not biased at all. You can also look at the type of book and if it is well written or not.

  32. As a reader, I dentify the author's purpose in writing by understanding what the author means, digging deeper into the words that they choose to use. I look for the authors opinions on the book as well, trying to see which side they are on and how they feel about the subject.

  33. when trying to find an author's purpose, i look at the type of book that it is, like a narrative, fiction, or non- fiction books. then from there i see how the author feels about topics, then what the author's reaction is certain subjects, in order to get his or her opinion which can help with the purpose.
