Oedipus Rex

Where do you see dramatic irony in this play so far?  Explain in detail.

  1. In the play we know the Oedipus is the one who killed Laius but the characters do not know that so that is dramatic irony.

  2. We know that Oedipus killed Laius and Laius is his father therefore he is sleeping with his mother. Even though he knows he killed Laius Oedipus can't put two and two together to figure out he is his padre.

  3. In Oedipus Rex, we know that Oedipus killed Laius, but the characters don't know this yet making it dramatic irony.

  4. Oedipus Rex is unsure whether he killed King Laius, but we know that he did. Jocasta and Oedipus have no clue that they are mother and son, but it is known to us.

  5. We already know that Oedipus Killed Laius and is sleeping with his mother.

  6. When we know that Oedipus is actually married to his mom but he doesn't.

  7. We see it when Oedipus and Jocasta are talking about the story and explaining the situation and Oedipus figures a lot of it out except for the fact that he is Jocastas son and we know this but he doesnt so that is dramatic irony.
