Theme of music

How do you see the theme of "music saves lives" developing in chapter 9?  How does music continue to save Ishmael?

  1. When they strip the boys down, the cassette tapes fall out of Ishmael's pockets, and the chief demands for them to be played. While they are being played, the chief is amused and he realizes that they are just regular boys and mean no harm.

  3. The theme is shown through the many times the music tape saves him and his friends. The music shows the different tribes that he is just a normal kid and is not a rebel.

  4. Both times that Ishmael and his group were about to be killed, his cassette tapes saved him because after the people listened to them they decided to let them go.

  5. The chief found the cassette tapes and wasn't sure if Ishmael stole them or owned them so he asked about them. When Ishmael told him the truth about them it saved his life because the dancing and singing showed that he is just an innocent kid who lived a normal life before the war.

  6. Music saved their lives many times. They have ran into different tribes and villages that thought they were a group of rebels. Every time the villagers and the tribes try to kill them. Then they find the tape and listen to it they know that they aren't rebels.

  7. The cassette tape Ishmael carries with him saved him multiple times when chief leaders would play it to see if he was just a simple child or not. The theme of "music saves lives" is seen through this cassette tape saving Ishmaels life from certain death.

  8. The cassette tape has so far saved Ishmael's life twice. Both from chiefs would would have surely killed them otherwise.

  9. When the chief of the village on the island plays the boys cassette tapes, he realizes that they are only kids looking for safety and releases them.

  10. Ishmael's music seems to be saving him throughout the novel because it proves to the people in other villages that he is just a child and not a rebel.

  11. Every time he is found or about to get in trouble somehow the cassette tape he has comes into play. Each time it also saves his life. Therefore the theme of music is shown throughout the story by showing how much it has saved him and his friends.
